The Big Apple tops destinations for travel money savings on must-have fashion

The Post Office has revealed New York's best designer shopping bargains in its annual Christmas Shopping Guide. The guide shows UK shoppers where they can go to get the most from their holiday travel money.

Using current foreign exchange rates, smart shoppers can save up to 25 per cent by shopping in New York as opposed to London. With sterling's foreign exchange rate against the dollar continuing to show improvement, UK holidaymakers can make their travel money go further on New York's top designer fashion bargains.

The improved foreign exchange rate is a key factor in top brands such as Levi, Ugg, Diane Von Furstenburg and Calvin Klein being reported as significantly cheaper in the Big Apple than the UK.

UK holidaymakers can also make significant savings in New York by spending their travel money on make-up and perfume. Chanel perfume came out 10 per cent cheaper when bought in New York, while Benefit make-up bought in New York had a 14 per cent smaller price tag.

The duty free allowance for UK citizens travelling from the US to the UK has also been raised recently, meaning that shoppers can spend up to £340 of their travel money on US products, tax free.
