There are no racially divided neighborhoods in Deltona making it the city of Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream. Despite a few isolated incidents, red, yellow, black and white Deltona residents live side by side in harmony.

Ironically, Deltona captured the national spotlight due to a few anomalies; the mysterious disappearance of a grandmother and her grandson, a mass murder, two sink holes and being hit by three hurricanes in one season.

Deltona’s annual MLK Luncheon always hosts an extremely diverse capacity crowd. Deltona’s annual Springfest theme is “We’re All Neighbors in Deltona.” This is not just a nice slogan. These folks truly mean it.

With more than 80,000 residents, Deltona is the largest and fastest growing city in Volusia County. And yet, amazingly it retains the warmth of a small town; a kind of Mayberry on steroids.

Deltona’s uniqueness captured the attention of Dr Vilbert White, Associate Professor & Director of Public History, University of Central Florida. Dr. White has begun the Deltona History Timeline Project. The project consists of three phases, interviewing residents, publishing a book and production of a documentary.
