theadportal.com Looks to be the First Portal Built Entirely by its Visitors

Site owner looks to build free pixel based portal for the creative mass.

CHICAGO, Illinois (PRWEB) January 26, 2006 -- Chicago entrepreneur, Tim Flatland, looks to bring the world of pixel advertising and internet portal together, with one catch, the pixel ads, or what he refers to as “our visitors favorites”, people submit are 100 percent free; “the idea, or I should say hope, is to create a collage of images that can take you to sites you might have never known exist.” Visitors to the site can upload a small image (20x20 pixel max) representing a link to their favorite web site.

What makes it so unique is that its growth is completely dependent on the people adding their favorite website(s) to the portal, not a high tech program (sometimes referred to as search engine robot). A portal built entirely by its visitors allows you to click around and see what sites other people are raving about, rather than just finding the pages with high search engine rankings; “The main problem I have with search engines is the amount of paid inclusion ads, in some cases you have to skip down to the 3rd or 4th results page before you find sites with actual content relevant to your search terms. I don’t see this project as a solution to this problem at all, just a fun alternative.” In fact, there are no search terms, it’s all random.

This is certainly not the most efficient way to search the internet, but after the first 10 minutes of moving your mouse around the pixel portal area and clicking away, you can begin to understand the logic behind the site, it’s just plain fun, a little mindless searching; like something similar to Google’s “feeling lucky” button. Except here you might be making your selection based on a cool looking image, not a keyword.
