Sub-Contractors: Tired of the Lump? With the CITB predicting a shift back to direct employment by many self employed sub-contractors, Benfield ATT – one of the UK’s foremost Timber Frame Engineering organisations – today announced its “Specialist Skill Security” (SSS) scheme for experienced Construction trades people. Monmouthshire, UK (PRWEB) January 26, 2006 -- With the CITB predicting a shift back to direct employment by many self employed sub-contractors, Benfield ATT – one of the UK’s foremost Timber Frame Engineering organisations – today announced its “Specialist Skill Security” (SSS) scheme for experienced Construction trades people.
"Increasing Red Tape is sounding the death knell for many sub-contractors”, said Professor Michael Benfield, CEO of Benfield ATT.“Soon they’ll recognise the way in which the revised CIS tax scheme will bite them. They will also begin to appreciate that there are no ways round the HM Inspectors tests to determine employment status. That’s where our scheme comes in.Aimed at the more savvy operators, were offering to take all the paperwork, administration, planning, and downtime worries off them while letting them gross as much, or even more than they earned on the lump.” he said.
With the Inland Revenue already re-categorising many supposed self-employed workers, Benfield ATT will take on responsibility for CITB training levies, provide ‘top-up’ training on newer site skills, and upgrade their Health & Safety competences, Site Security, and other knowledge and capabilities now required by legislation. They will also extend their recently introduced apprentice scheme to mature workers, allowing them to convert their site experience into nationally recognised qualifications.
“The tide has already turned,” said Veronica Clarke, Benfield ATT’s HR Manager, “Many of our new starters are well qualified and experienced trades men and women who recognise how the benefits of permanent employment seriously outweigh the disadvantages of being ‘on the lump’”.
