NCCAR Chairwoman Becomes American Adoption Congress NC State Representative

Roberta MacDonald chairwoman of the NC Coalition for Adoption Reform is now an American Adoption Congress State Representative for North Carolina.

Roberta MacDonald, chairwoman of the North Carolina Coalition for Adoption Reform has been appointed as an American Adoption Congress (AAC) North Carolina State Representative. The American Adoption Congress is a national organization, whose slogan is Families Rooted in Truth…, and that through education and advocacy the AAC promotes honesty, openness and respect for family connections in adoption, foster care and assisted reproduction.

Roberta is a reunited adult adoptee currently working towards access to the original birth certificate for any adult adoptee or the descendant of a deceased adoptee in North Carolina, who would want a copy of it.

In 1996, Roberta was reunited with her birthmother and a full blooded sister with the assistance of a search angel in New Jersey where Roberta was adopted. Roberta and other adult adoptees like her strongly believes once an adoptee becomes an adult they should be able to have access to their original birth certificate, the same right as the non-adopted currently have. Currently an adoptee is issued a falsified document by the state once they are adopted. The adoptee’s name is changed, the county of birth is changed and the parent’s names are changed as if they gave birth to the child.

Roberta along with other adoptees, birth parents and adoptive parents started the NC Coalition for Adoption Reform (NCCAR) in 2001, and they have been working diligently on legislation to take before the 2007 NC legislative session.
