WaterwayAdventures.com is changing the way businesses build synergy aboard their floating houseboat rentals on Lake Cumberland and Lake Barkley.

Lake Cumberland, KY (PRWEB) February 5, 2006

Companies are taking a fresh look at business brainstorming using Waterway Adventures Houseboat Rentals to add a new twist of excitement to the traditional boardroom meeting.

“Meetings in the board room often become meetings, truly, in the ‘bored’ room,” said Diann Boone, regional coordinator for Waterway Adventures. “Having company events on our houseboats is really an attention-getting setting that is proving very effective for the bottom line.”

A network of facilities operated by Waterway Adventures sits on Lake Cumberland and Lake Barkley in Kentucky. Houseboat models offered for daily, weekend or weekly rental range in size from 52’ to 80’, accommodating 6 to 12 people each. All models have meeting space on board, and most include private bedrooms; a full kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, oven, coffeemaker, stove, dishes, utensils, and gas grills; along with bed linens and pillows, stereos, TV with DVD, and a GPS system. The house boats are easy to pilot and require minimal training to operate. Businesses typically reserve one to multiple boats for their team-building and corporate retreats. Concierge services can take care of all shopping and other details needed to make this a convenient environment.

Senninger Plumbing, a family owned third-generation business with 210 employees based in Louisville, Kentucky, hosts its week-long annual shareholders meeting and family gathering on WaterWay Adventures houseboats every year since 1996. Mark Senninger, company president, says the meetings are “a way to keep everything in the family and business in harmony.” “We have a marvelous time,” said Senninger. It is great way to build synergy along with rejuvenation offered by Lake Cumberland and Lake Barkley Houseboating experiences. The Senninger group rents two houseboats and ties them up together with two personally owned houseboats to form a “corporate flotilla.” Fishing boats and wave runners are also available for rental from WaterWay Adventures, so there are plenty of options for water play and a bustle of activity for the group.

Boone recommends the larger houseboat models for company meetings, such as the Marquise or the Mystic, because they have spacious salon areas for presentations, big screen TVs and large dining tables for business meetings. Many of the houseboat models also have covered top decks for informal meetings and gatherings, while amenities such as wet bars, hot tubs, water slides -- along with boating, fishing and swimming -- provide ample opportunities for employees to get the creative juices flowing.

The Valvoline Company, a division of Ashland, Inc, has rented houseboats from WaterWay Adventures for executive meetings with senior managers over the past five years.

“It’s the perfect setting for our get-togethers,” said Mark Smith, operations manager for Valvoline. “There are no disruptions, it’s private, and great for team building.”

Formal meetings are often held in the boat’s large salon, typically with projected computer presentations, and break out sessions adjourn to different areas of the boat including the top deck lounge area. In addition to typical meeting activities, team building is accomplished by pairing individuals for meal preparation and other tasks, or by just going fishing, riding on personal watercraft, skiing, or swimming together.

Smith says the houseboat business meetings provide “bonding time you wouldn’t get in other settings” because of the activity time together and the lack of distractions, such as cell phones and computers, and because participants can’t hide in a hotel room or downtown club after hours. He claims WaterWay Adventures style meetings are also exceptionally cost effective. “We have a fantastic time,” Smith said. “Usually in meetings, you can’t wait for them to end. For Waterway Adventure meetings, you’re disappointed when it’s over.”

Boone says the best time to book corporate events is early Fall or mid-Spring, when the lakes are less crowded and the days warm - but book early! The boats are available for rental at Burnside Marina and Beaver Creek Resort on Lake Cumberland in south central Kentucky, and Green Turtle Bay Houseboat Rentals on western Kentucky’s Lake Barkley.    Online reservations are available at http://waterwayadventures.com/reservenow.aspx
