“Loving Mr. Lincoln: The Personal Diaries of Mary Todd Lincoln” is fiction but based on over 3 years of intensive research by Ms. duPont. You have to keep telling yourself you didn’t accidentally find these diaries hidden away by Mrs. Lincoln. “Loving Mr. Lincoln” is the intriguing inside story of the most misunderstood First Lady in American history and the husband who would never have become President without her.

M. Kay duPont was the Winner of the 2003 Georgia Writers Association Members Fiction Award.

PITCH FOR INTERVIEWING MS. DuPONT:

M. Kay duPont is a noted author and speaker, and the winner of the 2003 Georgia Writers Association Members Fiction Award. She is available for interviews or to present a snippet of her one-woman show based on her award-winning book "Loving Mr. Lincoln: the Personal Diaries of Mary Todd Lincoln". Kay’s intensive and extensive research has resulted in a beautifully written portrayal of the life and love the Lincolns shared. It is also an excellent behind-the-scenes view of the politics during their 26 years together, leading up to and after the presidency. Ms. duPont has taken her one-woman show around the United States to enthralled audiences. She makes you laugh and, at times, fight back tears, as she talks about preparing for an evening at the theater. Everyone in the audience knows the outcome, but she speaks of the topic from the innocent and unknowing viewpoint none of us can imagine.

Topics you may consider in talking with Ms. duPont include areas such:

1. Her research

2. The most interesting facts she uncovered about Mrs. Lincoln’s mental state – a topic much ballyhooed in the press

3. The relationships among the presidential candidates of the period

4. Ms duPont’s impression of the Lincolns’ relationship

5. Insight into the loss of three Lincoln children

6. Why Kay wrote this book as a diary

7. Is this really fiction?

Participant comments:

"Great job! You made Mary Lincoln come alive like I have never seen her before. This is the way for people to learn history—by making the characters real.

Wonderful. You treated Mr. Lincoln with sensitivity, and Mary’s love for him shone through the entire presentation. I can see them holding hands and smiling at you. Bravo!!"

Richard Freeman, Lincoln and Civil War Presentations

Thank you so much for performing your wonderful story at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. The audience, as well as I, was enthralled, delighted, and touched with your lovely portrayal and with Mary Todd Lincoln’s insights into the Presidency and her life with Mr. Lincoln."
