Portland Company Issues a Sharp Rebuke to Bush Administration by Throwing Heavy Support Behind Progressive Non-profits In a direct rebuttal to the claim by the Bush administration of a right to spy on American citizens, Portland-based ThinkHost (http://www.thinkhost.com), a progressive internet services company and a member of Co-Op America, is taking action. Portland, OR (PRWEB) February 10, 2006 -- In a direct rebuttal to the claim by the Bush administration of a right to spy on American citizens, Portland-based ThinkHost (http://www.thinkhost.com), a progressive internet services company and a member of Co-Op America, is taking action.
ThinkHost, whose operations are powered by 100% renewable energy, has pledged support to the American Civil Liberties Union, Center for Constitutional Rights, Global Exchange, and over three dozen other progressive non-profits working not only to oppose the Bush Administration agenda, but more importantly to build a more just, sustainable world.
In addition to direct support, ThinkHost is offering a 2 to 1 matching program for any customer who donates to one of the many social change non-profits supported. For every dollar that a customer gives to one of the approved organizations, ThinkHost will provide the customer with two dollars of free Internet web hosting services, to a maximum of $50 annually.
ThinkHost's Executive Director, Vladislav Davidzon, explains: "I am quite frankly growing increasingly embarrassed at the actions of my government. This administration is actively working to destroy the very things that make this country great -- our freedoms and our civil institutions. The recent announcement that they have some absurd right to spy on American citizens was the last straw. It seems almost as though Mr. Bush and I were taught different editions of the Constitution, and he needs someone to explain to him that what he is doing is not only wrong, but is plainly illegal. We are throwing our weight behind the groups that are exposing the lies and seek to actually rectify the issues - real solutions."
Mr. Davidzon and ThinkHost have a long history in activism and supporting progressive organizations.
"I've been involved in humanitarian efforts overseas, where I have seen first hand the effects of our foreign policies. Some of our staffers have also been involved with activism at all levels, for example in rallying against the unlawful invasion of Iraq. We seek to lead by example and warmly welcome those who do the same. We are just so sick of unnecessary death, suffering, and inequality. We want to play a leading role in helping to protect those who have been disempowered by corrupt governments and greedy corporations. To remain silent is to be complicit, and today we break our silence."
ThinkHost was established in 1999 and since that time the company has provided free hosting services and funding to many progressive non-profit organizations. "We have also switched our operations over to 100% renewable energy. This was yet another contribution in our counterassault on global corruption and environmental degradation - and believe me, our efforts will only escalate in the years ahead." says Mr Davidzon.
The list of groups that ThinkHost supports through their "Supporting Social Change" program is a veritable who's who of the movers and shakers in the world of progressive causes. Groups include GreenPeace, Doctors without Borders, Planned Parenthood, American Civil Liberties Union, Center for Constitutional Rights, Veterans for Peace, and many others. A full list can be viewed at http://www.thinkhost.com/socialchange/supporting-social-change.shtml.
"We also invite groups whose primary focus is environment, grass roots democracy, peace, social/economic justice or human rights to be considered for our program. Equally as important, we also encourage other companies to implement the same type of programs. Together we can make a difference."
"Many of us groan and moan about the state of the world, it's time to put some of our money where our collective mouth is - for the sake of good and what is right, not the promise of profits. These are the concepts that we as a nation are meant to stand for. As we are currently the only global superpower, we have a serious responsibility - not just on the domestic front, but also to all the peoples of the world. It's high time we lived up to it."
