Rock Will Make Its West Coast Debut at the 14th Annual Pan African Film & Arts Festival

Independent film “Rock the Paint” makes a slam dunk at Pan African Film & Art Festival with four nominations

LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) February 11, 2006 -- The coming-of-age basketball film “Rock the Paint” will be at home when it debuts at the Magic Johnson Theaters hosting The 14th Annual Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles, California. “Rock the Paint” is scheduled for two screenings: Sunday, February 12 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 18 at 6:40 p.m.

“Rock the Paint” is a racially charged film that ignites when teenager Josh Sendler (Doug Smith, HBO series “Big Love” and “Sleepover”) has to pack up his hoop dreams and move from the cornfields of Indiana to the inner-city streets of Newark, N.J. Basketball phenomenon Antwon Jackson (Kevin Phillips III) befriends Josh and together they make a run for the high school state championship, but not without their friendship being tested by differences in background, race and in the face of the explosive n-word.

The movie features original new songs by Grammy winner Wyclef Jean, and has been nominated for several PAFF awards including BEST DIRECTOR – Phil Bertelsen.

Established in 1992, The Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the promotion of cultural and racial tolerance and understanding through the exhibition of film, art and creative expression.

Each year PAFF screens over 150 films from the U.S., Africa, the Caribbean, South America, the South Pacific, Europe and Canada, made by or about people of African descent. PAFF also includes a section of international films from the developing world.
