Young Man, Disabled by Cerebral Palsy, Trains Retired Racing Greyhounds for Pet Therapy

Skip Potter volunteers for Project Racing Home Greyhound Adoptions. Skip has set three goals to reach in his lifetime: Become a licensed trainer, have his own farm, and have his own race kennel that supports the Race for Adoption program. Many people doubt that Skip can accomplish these goals from a wheelchair, but, he just grins and tells people to "Just Believe."

(PRWEB) February 15, 2006 -- Skip Potter has Cerebral Palsy. He has use of only one hand, and uses an electric wheelchair for mobility. Skip came to Project Racing Home (PRH) in October of 2003. He volunteers two days per week at the kennel. Through the guidance and tutelage of Kennel Director, Kimberly Jewell, Skip has learned to be an advocate for the NGA Greyhound,. His motto “Just Believe,” and his relationship with a PRH Greyhound named Justin, has gained national recognition for encouraging adoption groups to allow disabled people to work with Greyhounds. Skip has a red-fawn Greyhound puppy, named Taylor.

Skip has used his talent and love for the Greyhounds to train three Project Racing Home Greyhounds to be therapy dogs. Miz Mandy, mother of Race for Adoption’s Mandy’s Choo Choo, developed a very special bond with Skip. Mandy is now living in Palm Beach, FL, and plans to continue her work as a therapy dog, with her new owner. HR’s Satin and “Larry the Lurcher” were recovered during the 2005 tragedy in Orange County, North Carolina. After Skip worked with her, Satin was adopted by someone who uses a wheelchair. Larry is currently available for adoption, from Project Racing Home, and has done pet therapy at many local nursing homes. People just love to meet Larry, and Larry loves to do pet therapy. Skip is very proud of his part in nursing the Orange County dogs back to being healthy and happy again.
