RASO Announces What Promises to be a Lively and Exciting Foray Into Advanced Spectroscopy

The RAS (Remote Astronomical Society) Observatory, announces that noted spectroscopist, Dale Mais reveals his intentions to lay to rest one of amateurs most cherished beliefs in astronomy. A continuation of the web-based series of astronomy related seminars will be presented Sunday, February 19, 2006 at Noon MST (19:00 UTC).

The seminar on “Amateur Spectroscopy" will be presented by Dale Mais, Ph. D. (http://www.mais-ccd-spectroscopy.com/Personal.htm) on his favorite subject: "Mira type stars”. The seminar is provided as a public service of the RAS Observatory. There is no charge for access to this seminar.

When asked about his interest in this subject, Dale commented, “Mira type stars are red giant stars which are among the most interesting stars in the heavens spectroscopically and photometrically. These stars include M, C and S type stars which are evolutionally interrelated as we will discuss.”

Mais was quick to add, “Most stars in the heavens including the sun will pass through this stage late in its life and the life cycle of these stars have profound implications for the formation of new planets and life itself. In fact, discussion of these stars will lay to rest one of amateurs most cherished beliefs in astronomy. The spectroscopic and photometric survey of these stars will be discussed.”
