Echelon Press Publishing Celebrates Five Years

Offering unique stories for exceptional readers, Echelon Press finds success with new authors.

Laurel, MD (PRWEB) February 19, 2006

Since 2001, Echelon Press Publishing has made customer satisfaction its #1 goal. With a stable of authors numbering over 100 and as many titles put into production, the independent publisher has achieved a level of success, not easily obtained. The Laurel, Maryland based operation takes its customers very seriously. "Every Echelon author strives to give readers a fresh story, not the same old thing." And as is the case with many small operations, there are the technical glitches, but Karen Syed, the president of Echelon, tries to handle as many of them as possible, personally. "If it was good enough for Mary Kay, it's good enough for me and it keeps me in touch with what is going on," Karen says.

Owned and operated by Karen L. Syed, Echelon Press has distributed nearly 100,000 copies of its books and downloads during those five years. From its beginning, as an electronic publisher, Echelon has progressed through a number of phases. Their publications began with the expansion from e-book into print on demand paperbacks, and the company recently moved into traditional print runs. "This is the natural progression for us as a publisher. We will be competitive, and we will be successful. It's all about growth."

With a fondness for new authors, Echelon has built somewhat of a reputation for being a "dream maker." Several of their authors have gone on to obtain publishing contracts with the likes of Harlequin, Penguin Putnam, and Kensington, to name a few. Echelon doesn’t take any credit for "making" the author's careers, but Ms. Syed is pleased to think that, at the very least, she discovered the remarkable talent and brought it to light.

On the actual day of their anniversary, Echelon Press proudly watched as their most well-known author accepted his most recent award. Robert Goldsborough, who wrote the continuation of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe books after Mr. Stout's death, was honored with the 2006 LIM Readers Choice Award for "Bests Historical Mystery" for the first title in his original series. Mr. Goldsborough is currently working on the second title in his Snap Malek Mystery series. The award was given to Three Strikes You're Dead. The second book in the Chicago based series is The Shadow of the Bomb, scheduled for a fall 2006 release.

Looking toward the future, Echelon finds inspiration in their own successes and of those around them. Whether it be fellow publishers, large or small, or the committed authors of the industry, there is no lesson Syed isn't willing to learn, and put into action.

In honor of their anniversary, the publisher will host a special contest for readers. Ten of Echelon Press' outstanding authors will make ten lucky readers "famous." In a random drawing, ten names will be selected, and those winners will become the main characters of ten short stories to be published by Echelon Press. Details will soon be available on the Echelon Press web site.
