The annual cost of treating patients in the U.S. with problem wounds is estimated at more than $16 billion. Several factors are expected to continue to contribute to the growing need for specialized wound care, including more cases of diabetes; an aging population and the effects of radiation therapy.

According to a recent survey of hospital executives by Deloitte called the “Future of Healthcare,” the third largest profitable service in the healthcare industry is outpatient care. The survey also notes that most hospitals surveyed indicate the number one disease management program is diabetes. “We are projecting strong growth to continue in 2006,” says Jim Henry, President and CEO of Diversified Therapy. “Our projection for this year is to exceed $30 million in revenue and sign contracts to open more than 30 new wound care centers.”
