Kidney Cancer Association March on Capitol Hill

KCA helps federal legislators to better understand how kidney cancer affects the lives of thousands of Americans

The Kidney Cancer Association (KCA) recently sponsored a well-received educational briefing for members of the Congressional Kidney Caucus. More than 40 Congressional offices sent staff to the briefing. In addition to the Hill staffers, representatives from the FDA and the National Kidney Foundation were present.

Congressman Kirk's staffer, Jeff Phillips, was on hand to give the opening to the briefing. The bipartisan Congressional Kidney Caucus was founded by Representatives Jim McDermott (D-WA) and Mark Kirk (R-IL) in March, 2002. The purpose of the Caucus is to educate Members of Congress and the public about the problem kidney disease poses for our society.

Lobby Day 2006

KCA supporters can take action to help their federal legislators to better understand how kidney cancer affects the lives of thousands of Americans. Kidney cancer survivors and their families will gather on Capitol Hill to meet with their elected representatives.

Date: Tuesday, March 7, 2006

Time: 8:30 AM - 10 AM briefing for kidney cancer advocates prior to appointments with elected officials on Capitol Hill

Location: B354 of the Rayburn House Office Building

This is a one-day "fly-in" event, intended to make it easy for anyone interested in the eradication of kidney cancer to participate. To join the march, the KCA needs your name, address (including your Zip Code®), email address and telephone number.

The KCA will arrange appointments with elected officials and provide "talking points" for attendees, who can be on their way back home the same evening, if they wish. This is the only KCA-sponsored opportunity for survivors, patients and families to make their voices heard on Capitol Hill in 2006.

There is no cost to participate, but those who join the march are responsible for travel and hotel costs, as necessary. Limited financial assistance may be available to the medically underserved.

The KCA serves more than 72-thousand people around the world from its suburban Chicago office. The organization was started in 1990 by Eugene P. Schonfeld, Ph.D., a small group of patients and their physician. Its mission is the eradication of death and suffering due to renal cancers.
