(PRWEB) February 22, 2006 -- Candidate for Executive Council, Bob Bruce

Opposes HB 1496/SB 247, the proposed “right-to-work” laws. On Friday, February 17, 2006, Bruce spoke to the Labor Committee in Concord in opposition to HB1496/SB 247 the proposed “Right to Work laws.

RTW is wrong for New Hampshire, wrong for our Economy, and wrong for NH Employees, Bruce said. Every two years this bill comes up, driven by an out of state entity.

The people of New Hampshire are tired of organizations from another state coming up here to tell us that they know better than we do, what is best for our state, our Economy and our workers, Bruce continued. There is no need for "Right to work" laws. No one can be forced to join a union. The Supreme Court already answered this in Communication Workers of America vs. Beck.

The Communications Workers of America vs. Beck states that employees not wishing to join a union need only pay dues and fees directly associated with the negotiation and administration of the labor contract, because these are the monetary fees that they garner benefit from. This right is provided in Section 8(a)(3) of the National Labor Relations Act.

Bruce added that, If you go to work for a union shop and don’t want to join that union that is your business, no one Else’s, but you should still expect to pay your fair share for their representation.

In the late 70’s, Bruce worked for one of the only non-union airlines, their wages, benefits and training were always equal to or better than what the other airlines were paying their union employees, so that they would stay put and not move to the other airlines.

So in effect the unions did represent them in a roundabout way. Without them their pay would have been much lower, their training and benefits would have been almost non-existent. The Economy in New Hampshire is Strong, Let’s keep it that way, Vote NO on HB1496 / SB247.

Bob Bruce is a Husband, Father and Grandfather, a Vietnam-Era Naval Veteran; Former Police Officer, Former Firefighter and Veteran's Counselor. Bob has also worked in both Military and Civilian Aviation; and is currently a Test Engineer in the Data Storage Field.

Bob Lives in Candia, NH with his wife Carol.
