Roche to Pilot Linguamatics for Molecular Genomics Research

Linguamatics, a leading player in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and its use in text search and mining, announced today that Hoffmann-La Roche is to pilot the Linguamatics I2E text mining software for molecular genomics research.

Cambridge, UK (PRWEB) February 24, 2006 -- Linguamatics, a leading player in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and its use in text search and mining, announced today that Hoffmann-La Roche is to pilot the Linguamatics I2E text mining software for molecular genomics research.

I2E will be deployed to help with a wide range of knowledge discovery tasks at the Roche Center for Medical Genomics in Basel, Switzerland. The technology enables the discovery of key information from large collections of text documents that would be impossible or prohibitively time-consuming to find using conventional methods. The system's powerful linguistic capabilities can be used interactively to extract relevant facts and relationships from unstructured text documents and present them to the user in a structured form. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

Commenting on the relationship, Roger Hale, COO of Linguamatics, said, "This is an ideal application for the I2E system. Its Information Extraction capabilities, combined with its speed and ease of use, allow users to get the answers they need very quickly without requiring linguistic expertise. We are very pleased to be working with Roche, and look forward to a successful collaboration."

Guillemette Duchateau-Nguyen, Leader of the Text Mining tools evaluation project at the Roche Center for Medical Genomics, said, "In our search for appropriate text mining tools to aid our research, we were very impressed by the capabilities of Linguamatics' I2E system, in particular its flexibility and ease of use. We are looking forward to gaining new insights from the literature and our internal information resources through our use of I2E."
