Manhattan, NY Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Performs 200th Buttock Implant Procedure
NYC Plastic Surgeon is dedicated to improving the outcome of buttock implant operations.
New York (PRWEB) January 25, 2010
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Douglas M. Senderoff, MD, FACS of Park Avenue Aethetics (http://www.drsenderoff.com) announced today that he has performed his 200th buttock augmentation. Dr. Senderoff is now in the process of analyzing the data from these 200 buttock implant plastic surgeries for a study soon to be presented to the plastic surgery community. In the study Dr. Senderoff inserted 400 solid silicone buttock implants into 200 of his patients at his accredited outpatient surgical facility located on Park Avenue South in Manhattan, New York. The NYC Plastic Surgeon has been reviewing the medical records of these buttock implant patients in order to determine the complication rates and surgical outcomes of this procedure.
In the buttock augmentation plastic surgery a solid silicone buttock implant is inserted either within the fibers of the gluteal muscle or within the thin fascial layer above the muscle through a single midline incision between the upper part of the buttocks. After healing the result is a fuller, rounder, and more projecting buttock.
The buttock implants used in the U.S. are not prone to rupture or leakage since they are composed of a solid silicone polymer. Newer models of buttock implants have a softer feel similar to a well toned muscle which has improved patient satisfaction. Buttock augmentation surgery can be combined with liposuction of the lower back to create a more pleasing shape.
In 2005, Dr. Senderoff presented a buttock augmentation study in which he reviewed the records of 40 of his patients who had undergone gluteal augmentation with solid silicone buttock implants at the Annual Meeting of the Aesthetic Society in New Orleans. The infection rate in that study was found to be 5%. In addition, the most common postoperative complication in the 2005 study was seroma formation occurring in 30% of patients. The seromas, a collection of clear fluid around the implants, while common almost always responded to aspiration and did not affect the final aesthetic result. The Manhattan, NY Plastic Surgeon believes it is important for surgeons to keep accurate records so they can evaluate the success rates of the surgeries they perform. “There are no large peer reviewed studies of buttock implant patients in the United States,” remarks Dr. Senderoff. He adds “plastic surgeons need to know what they can expect after the buttock implant procedure so they can better inform their patients of the established risks and benefits of this particular surgery.”
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery 3,638 buttock augmentations were performed in 2008 in the U.S compared to 614 in 2002. Buttock augmentation (buttock implant plastic surgery) has become more popular and more plastic surgeons are performing this procedure. Dr. Senderoff who is dedicated to improving the outcome of this procedure has produced several instructional videos for different buttock implant manufacturers which are used to educate surgeons interested in learning this operation. While patients may be eager to enjoy the benefits of this procedure the Manhattan Plastic Surgeon recommends they choose a plastic surgeon who performs this operation regularly and is experienced treating the potential complications of buttock implant plastic surgery.
