2006 Schaumburg Flyers High School Baseball Classic Presented by AT&T The 6th Annual Schaumburg Flyers High School Baseball Classic presented by AT&T is scheduled to take place April 6-8 at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Illinois. The Northern League Schaumburg Flyers, a eighth-year professional baseball club will once again provide their stadium for the three day event. The Flyers Classic will showcase eight high school programs from the Chicago land area. (PRWEB) February 27, 2006 -- Co-host Schaumburg High School is scheduled to open the Flyers Classic with a game against the pre season #1 ranked team in the state by the Truth Prep Baseball Report, Benet Academy at 4:30 PM on Thursday afternoon. The Redwings are led by Villanova-bound Chris Pack, a senior pitcher and senior 3rd baseman Connor Powers. Powers who garnered all state honors last year by various publications is still undecided about college. The #18 ranked Schaumburg Saxons, led by junior pitcher/outfielder Grant Monroe, are bringing their downstate experience from last season to this year's Flyers Classic. The Saxons lost to the eventual State Champions, Lockport (6-2) in the quarter finals of the 2005 IHSA State Tournament. The Porters were also the 2005 Flyers Classic champions. Naperville Central will take on New Trier on Thursday evening in Game 2 of the opening twin bill. The #4 ranked Red Hawks are led by North Carolina-bound Colin Bates, a senior pitcher and Southern Illinois-bound Lou Johanns, a senior SS. The #20 ranked Trevians who won the Flyers Classic in 2003 are led by UIC-bound John Rosinski, a senior OF and Harvard-bound Zach Hofeld, a senior pitcher. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
Another doubleheader is slated for Friday. Co-host H.D. Jacobs will take on highly regarded Clemente in the afternoon game at 4:30 PM. The Golden Eagles are lead by St. Josephs-bound Patrick Luehring, a senior OF and Elgin Community College-bound Matt Revelle, a senior OF. Clemente features senior pitcher, Oscar Sanchez, a signee at Bethune-Cookman. The field is rounded out by Lake Park & #6 ranked Carmel. Those two schools will meet on Friday night at 7:00 PM. Carmel is led by Northwestern-bound and all stater Matt Diedrich, a senior pitcher.
An action packed day of baseball will conclude the tournament on Saturday. Consolation games will occur simultaneously at H.D. Jacobs High School and Lake Park High School, beginning at 1:00 PM. Alexian Field and Schaumburg will conduct semifinal bracket games also at 1:00 PM. At 3:30 PM, the 5th place game will be played at Alexian Field while the 3rd place game unfolds at Schaumburg High. The tournament championship game will take place at 6:30 PM on Saturday at Alexian Field.
