A new dedicated Shanghai technical and sales office has been established by Hawke International, the leading specialist in cable gland technology for electrical safety in hazardous areas. With a population of 1.3 billion people and an annual economic growth rate of nine percent, China is the second largest consumer of petrochemicals after the USA. Oil and gas exploration and production is one of the largest markets for Hawke products. Previously, the Chinese regions were supported by Hawke’s Asia office based in Singapore. Commenting on the move, managing director James Phillips explained, “Oil consumption in China is rising due to surging industrialisation at an average annual rate of 7.5 percent. Vehicle numbers increased by 19 percent last year and we see strong demand for our products in exploration, production and refining.”
