The World is for Sale! And You Can Buy it a Country at a time on Ebay

BuytheMap.com is the first website selling countries online. From the USA to the UAE people are getting in fast for this virtual real-estate.

Birmingham, United Kingdom (PRWEB) February 28, 2006 -- BuytheMap.com has a novel idea...selling the world off....four countries at a time!

This website is a giant map, each week four countries are placed for auction on Ebay and prospective owners bid to win their countries.

"The beauty is that the market sets the price a country is worth due to its Kudos, size and position," says site creator Frenchie who came up with the idea. "So far I have had some interesting offers," he muses and it appears the U.K. is getting the majority of the attention, but for the time-being it's not up for auction.

So what's the most expensive country so far?

France £100

Spain £100

Germany £72

Iceland £67

Frenchie explains that he came up with the idea as a way to finance a pretty large purchase of his own, "I'm currently looking at getting on the property ladder, and could do with a bit of extra cash, so hey presto, Im selling the world to get my own little piece."

In fact it appears interest in the site is gathering pace, people keep coming back to see how the auctions are going, or see what's up for sale. Another big draw is the blog Frenchie keeps of his exploits and the trials and tribulations of a first time site developer. Only six weeks in and the site has recieved over 50,000 hits. There's no doubt that the quirky tricks that Frenchie has employed keep visitors entertained and waiting with baited breath to see what's coming next on the map - there is currently a person occupying IRAQ flying the British flag!

"There's a lot more to come on BuytheMap - so my advice is to get in early before you miss your chance," Frenchie explains as he expects prices to rocket!

One country owner is already seeing the benefits "I bought Iceland and Spain and have seen a dramatic increase in traffic," says Lawrence of http://www.hotelexpert.cc

So BuytheMap, it could prove to be a good little investment, a nice piece of advertising, or just plain old fashioned fun!
