Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 4, 2006 -- Phat Diabetics announced today the opening of its new shop on CafePress.com found at www.phatdiabetics.com. This store will focus on the creation of Medical Alert t-shirts based on professions and sports themes. For example, if you are a jogger and are diabetic, you can purchase one of our t-shirts with a medical alert symbol, along with a cool saying on the shirt. There are also, shirts based on professional jobs, such as nurse, hair stylist, drummer, singer, etc. If you have Type 1 (Juvenile Diabetes) are a young and hip person, you will find a medical alert shirt for you.

"I started this concept after my son refused to wear “nerdy” medical ID bracelets or any apparel regarding his diabetes condition. He plays tennis and I was always afraid that he would need to have some sort of medical alert on his person, just in case of a reaction during a match. But is was a struggle to get him to wear anything that didn't “fit his style.” Apparently, looking good at his age is much more important then staying safe with diabetes!” explains Maria Schlossberg, creator and owner of Phat Diabetics. “I named the shop Phat because it is THE buzz word today for all things hip and cool. I created the first t-shirt just for my son, for his tennis games and other mom's asked about ones for soccer, baseball, basketball...and it just grew into this whole project.”

One of our best seller lines right now is Women with Attitude. These are wonderful medical alert shirts with witty, sassy sayings that a woman with attitude and diabetes might say to a someone that just doesn't “get” the condition. One of our most popular shirts says “I'm NOT PMS-ing, I'm hypoglycemic!”

Two other popular lines are: I pump for... and also I Shoot Up for...

These are shirts that proclaim the types of food that a diabetic would be willing to pump or inject insulin for. For example: “I shoot up for....Pasta.” Customers love these shirts and have emailed us for ones that we still don't carry, such as popcorn!

We are also starting an intimate apparel line that will feature, sassy sayings on boxer shorts and thongs.

As one of our fans has written lately, “Hey - I just saw these shirts at your store, and these are absolutely hilarious! (Especially the pick-up line one, I'll never be able to say "What's your type" w/o cracking up laughing again! Definitely buying that one for camp this summer...”

Maria Schlossberg is a mom of a 10 year old diabetic boy with type 1 diabetes. The venture was started to get young kids to “show off and be proud” of their condition and not to hide from others. It has now flourished into shirts and merchandise such as journals, mousepads and buttons with all these cool sayings on them.
