Loving Me Goes Digital

Loving Me, a novella released in June 2005, is now available for download. Loving Me has all the trappings of a modern day Romeo and Juliet rolled in to a novella that addresses many current societal issues such as interracial dating, racism, child abuse, rape, attempted suicide, homosexuality and dueling religious perspectives.

Cleveland, Ohio (PRWEB) March 13, 2006 -- K.C. Hopkins announces a downloadable version of Loving Me in conjunction with Lulu, the world’s only independent publishing and print-on-demand marketplace and community for all things digital. This version may only be available for a limited time.

Loving Me chronicles the senior year in high school of Jewels, an extremely depressed white student in a small town. Jewels falls in love with Rome, the black transfer student. The two embark on a secret affair that threatens to tear both of their families apart.

Jewels was born in to a family of racists and the relationship with Jewels’ father becomes increasingly abusive throughout the book. Jewels’ older brother is the star of the family and Jewels happily took a back seat, but the relationship with Rome brings Jewels much unwanted attention.

Rome’s father is a devout Christian who takes exception to Jewels’ atheist beliefs and makes an assertive effort to keep a close eye on Rome and Jewels.

The reveal of their secret romance marks the beginning of a downward spiral for Jewels that results in the loss of Rome, the loss of family and the loss of hope. Jewels is victimized at every turn and at first things seem to get worse and worse, but eventually a ray of hope appears in the form of an acceptance letter. Jewels and Rome are given a second chance to get it right, but a tragic ending awaits them.

Loving Me is laced with several topics that are worthy of further discussion, but the ultimate lesson of the novella is learned at the end. The ending provides a shocking twist which changes the dimensions of the entire story and forces the readers to re-evaluate their emotional attachment to the characters and decide if they still support Rome and Jewels.
