Northeast Center for Special Care: “Mind the Gap” – Funding for Treatment and Designation for Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation Programs

(PRWEB) March 12, 2006 -- Richard A. Hodder, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., Medical Director of the Northeast Center for Special Care provided testimony to the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force in connection with Brain Injury Awareness Day on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC.

The presentation by the emeritus physician captured the attention of the task force representatives, their staffers, and attendees on March 8, 2006 at the Rayburn House Office Building.

The theme of the Congressional Brain Injury Awareness Day was Never Heard of Traumatic Brain Injury? We Aim to Change That. The Congressional Brain Injury Task Force sponsored the event and the Northeast Center for Special Care, a unique traumatic brain injury rehabilitation program, located in Lake Katrine, NY, was invited to participate by the Honorable Bill Pascrell, Jr., co-chairman of the task force.

Dr. Hodder presented the congressional briefing entitled Mind the Gap in a panel discussion. The “Mind the Gap” message focused the attention of policy-makers, advocates, and consumers on the significant gap nationally in brain injury rehabilitation program services for individuals. At the Brain Injury Awareness Fair held in the Foyer of the Rayburn Building, Northeast Center for Special Care also provided a multi-media presentation about its brain injury rehabilitation services, including its Neurorehabilitation Intensive Program, and its Fine & Performing Arts programs. A short film about its creative writing and music programs was also aired continuously throughout the day.
