Mayor Barrett to Address Milwaukee Interactive Marketing Association March 23

The key players behind the Milwaukee Wireless Initiative will speak to members and guests of the Milwaukee Interactive Marketing Association (MIMA) on March 23 at Monsoon Wok & Lounge located on Cathedral Square downtown.

Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) March 16, 2006 -- The key players behind the Milwaukee Wireless Initiative will speak to members and guests of the Milwaukee Interactive Marketing Association (MIMA) on March 23 at Monsoon Wok & Lounge located on Cathedral Square downtown.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and the city’s Chief Information Officer Randy Gschwind will join Midwest Fiber Networks’ executives Donna Raffaelli-Meyer and Nik Ivancevic to discuss the agreement to build and maintain a citywide wireless data network.

“This is a great opportunity to learn about the plan to make Milwaukee one of the first major U.S. cities to go completely wireless,” said Grace Briscoe, president of MIMA. “Milwaukee undoubtedly will remain in the national spotlight as this race plays out among major U.S. cities battling to be first.”

Plan projections indicate it will take 18 months to complete the 96-square-mile wireless network, with the first wireless zone ready to go by this summer. With this timeline, Milwaukee stands to complete its wireless network before other major U.S. cities that continue to struggle to find workable business models.

“MIMA provides us with a great opportunity to reach out to early adopters of technology,” said Raffaelli-Meyer, MWFN principal. “This group comprises Milwaukee’s technology torchbearers who will breathe life into the wireless technology infrastructure built by Midwest Fiber Networks.”

Similar to hotspots currently using short-range-wireless, high-frequency radio waves in select coffee shops and parks around Milwaukee, a citywide wireless system will use access points to offer unlimited access within the borders of the city.
