iBurst Wireless Broadband Rollout in South Africa Picking up Speed

iBurst wireless broadband in South Africa is providing a real alternative to the incumbent monopoly.

(PRWEB) March 23, 2006 -- Broadband internet access was merely a pipe dream in South Africa until 2 years ago. Competition has been nonexistant becuase of a crippling regulatory environment and unwillingness by the incumbent monopoly Telkom to provide any services at affordable rates.

iBurst (http://www.iburstsouthafrica.co.za) now has over 10000 subscribers countrywide and is making providing a real cost effective option to Telkom.

Recently 40% of iBurst was acquired by a private investment company. This is allowing a major expansion of infrastructure including base stations and coverage in the 4 major centers iBurst currently services. The iBurst Wireless Broadband facility operates at up to 1024k/s (1MB/s) and provides an excellent alternative to ADSL (http://www.rsaweb.co.za/adsl/adsl.php).

iBurst is now targeting a rollout plan of at least 1 new base station per week, with the whole of Johannesburg to be covered by the end of April/May 2006.

South African business and the public now have a real broadband alternative to Telkom.
