National Speed Sport News Power Rankings, March 24, 2006

National Speed Sport News, America’s weekly motorsports authority for more than 70 years, ranks the Top 10 drivers from all forms of motorsports. This listing is from the March 22, 2006 issue.

Harrisburg, NC (PRWEB) March 24, 2006 – National Speed Sport News released its weekly Power Rankings, ranking the Top 10 drivers from all forms of motorsports based on their performance at the track and points standings. In this week’s list Jimmy Johnson retained his Number One Power Ranking this week following his sixth-place finish in Monday’s NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Melanie Troxel, the only female racer ranked, moved up two spots to seventh.

NHRA Top Fuel drag racer Tony Schumacher and NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver Casey Mears dropped from the top10.

1). Jimmie Johnson, NASCAR Nextel Cup. A sixth-place finish on Monday afternoon at the NASCAR Golden Corral 500 kept Johnson at the top of the rankings.

2). Fernando Alonso, Formula One. With a runner-up finish in the second race of the season, Alonso jumped two positions.

3). Dan Wheldon Indy Racing League. Wheldon will finally get his season started Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

4). Dave Steele, USAC, TBARA. Winning once in two TBARA sprint-car starts over the weekend, Steele moved up one spot.

5). Sebastien Bourdais, Champ Car World Series. The two-time defending Champ Car title winner continues to wait on the April 9 season opener.

6). Steve Kinser, National Sprint Tour. Kinser was eliminated from competition in an early crash at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway.

7). Melanie Troxel, NHRA Top Fuel. With her third final-round appearance in as many races, Troxel took the point lead.

8). Kasey Kahne NASCAR Nextel Cup. With his first Cup Series victory of the season, Kahne moved to second in the point standings, 50 points behind Johnson.

9). Todd Bodine Craftsman Truck Series. After consecutive second-place finishes, Bodine earned his first victory of the season Friday.

10). Steve Francis, World of Outlaws Late Model Series. Francis remained in the top 10 after a sixth-place finish Friday night in Louisiana.

Honorable mentions: NHRA Funny Car point-leader Ron Capps, World of Outlaws driver Donny Schatz and National Sprint Tour racer Tim Kaeding are outside looking in.
