Lee Endowment Seeks Innovative Ideas for Water Projects

The Lee Endowment for Global Freshwater announces the establishment of The Lee Project for Global Freshwater to make available the best technology and practices for improving the supply, access and quality of water.

Suttons Bay, MI (PRWEB) March 23, 2006 -- The Lee Endowment for Global Freshwater announces the establishment of The Lee Project for Global Freshwater to make available the best technology and practices for improving the supply, access and quality of water.

The Lee Project is one of the world’s first grants for supporting the development of solutions to the world’s freshwater needs through economical and practical methods. More than one billion people in developing countries do not have access to clean drinking water.

The Lee Endowment for Global Freshwater (LEGF) is seeking proposals for projects with the potential to be transferred to developing countries around the world. The competition is open to individuals, non-profit/ non-governmental organizations, grassroots groups or businesses of any nation. Applications from faith-based organizations must clearly meet the LEGF goals. The project must clearly demonstrate public benefit, must be fully accessible to persons regardless of their individual religious creed or convictions and must demonstrate respect for diversity of religious and spiritual beliefs of all individuals. The maximum award will be $25,000 per project.

Proposals will be accepted until April 30, 2006 and must address the six goals established by The Lee Endowment for Global Freshwater:

- Goal #1- To provide reasonable access to safe drinking water, to improve water quality and to minimize water-related disease.

- Goal #2- To develop economical and practical technologies which are appropriate to local cultures and economies.

- Goal #3- To support technologies and methods which contribute to sustainable ecosystems and local economies.

- Goal #4- To identify and support community involvement and leadership which will provide continuity and self-sufficiency.

- Goal #5- To support technologies and methods that are transferable to as many people as possible and to encourage local leadership to share their water resources management methods in order to reach as many people as possible.

- Goal #6- To improve the lives of women in developing countries in recognition of the central role they play in safeguarding freshwater resources.
