Chicago Sports Show Goes Deep with Local Athletes and Their Charities

Sports City Chicago will sit down with former Chicago Bear Jerry Azumah for an intimate one-on-one interview during its debut taping on March 1.

Chicago (PRWEB) February 25, 2010

Sports City Chicago, the newest sports-themed show in the Windy City, will film its debut episode March 1 at Pinstripes in Northbrook and will feature a one-on-one interview with football great Jerry Azumah, formerly of the Chicago Bears.

Hosted by Emmy Award winner Mitch Robinson, the show’s live taping is free and open to the public; however, reservations are required. The event starts with a light reception at 6:30 p.m. at the 1150 Willow Road venue and will include a Q&A session with Azumah and the audience following the main interview.

Being among the first 100 people to RSVP has additional perks – a chance to bowl a couple of frames with Azumah after the taping of the show. To make a reservation, go to http://www.sportscitychicago.com and fill out the RSVP box or call 847-480-7676, ext. 101.

Azumah led the National Football League in kickoff returns in 2003 with a 29-yard average, plus two touchdowns. He was selected as a kick-return specialist the following year for the Pro Bowl, in which he averaged 32.6 yards on seven kickoffs, setting a Pro Bowl record with a 228-yard kick-return total. The cornerback/kick returner played for the Chicago Bears for seven seasons before his 2005 retirement.

“This new show takes you beyond the game with your favorite athletes,” said Sports City Chicago Executive Producer Jason Groh. “We look past the stats and cliché sound bites. Instead, we focus on the athlete's story and his work in the community.”

This celebrity event will include a silent auction and airing of a video highlighting the Azumah Student Assistance Program (ASAP), which was established in 2004 to provide scholarships for education – a cause close to Azumah’s heart.

“I was able to experience first hand how such a program can shape the character and lives of young adults,” said Azumah. “Through the generous support I received, it has inspired me to help other students.”
