(PRWEB) March 30, 2006 -- Consumers baffled by a growing array of incompatible digital music formats, copy protection systems, and Hi-Def standards have a new resource they can turn to. The Medialoper Review Labs is devoted to demystifying the world of digital entertainment technology with in-depth reviews and analysis of new products and services.
The free service debuts this weekend with Medialoper's exclusive preview of the Prism DuroSport 6000 digital audio player and the DuroSport iTunes Compatibility Kit.
Kirk Biglione of Medialoper notes that "there is a range of issues surrounding digital entertainment technology, such as digital rights management (DRM). Most consumers aren't aware that DRM limits their ability to use content in ways that they have traditionally used it. Likewise, most consumers don't understand that media players typically support only one DRM system. So you may buy an iPod only to find out that it can't play music you download from Napster."
Biglione cites the recent high profile incident involving Sony BMG's CD copy protection scheme as an example of the need for more consumer awareness. Customers who innocently installed the software required to play the Sony BMG CDs found that their computer system's security was severely compromised as a result.
Biglione indicated that both the Prism DuroSport 6000 and the iTunes Compatibility Kit are "unique products" that perfectly illustrate the issues facing consumers today.
"These products typify a lot of what we're seeing in the marketplace. They have proprietary features that might look good on paper, but actually limit the consumer's choices after they've made their purchase."
The Medialoper Review Labs is presented by Medialoper (http://www.medialoper.com), an online journal of digital entertainment technology.
