Exosect, a leading provider of environmentally conscious insect pest control, today announced further worldwide expansion with a product development program in Italy with the Geneva based company Intrachem Bio International, through its Italian subsidiary Intrachem Bio Italia.

“Intrachem Bio specializes in crop protection and its focus is on plant nutrition, biological control and integrated pest management,” explains Exosect’s MD Martin Brown. “They initially trialled our codling moth system, Exosex CM, in 2005 and were so impressed with the preliminary results that this new agreement will cover all Exosex products throughout Italy.”

Exosex is a highly original, environmentally friendly method of pest control, particularly appropriate for the codling moth, the scourge of apple, pear and walnut growers, as well as moths that affect other industries (such as the Warehouse moth in food processing and storage). It uses a synthetic female sexual pheromone to attract males into a dispenser where electrostatic Entostat powder, also combined with the pheromone, is stored. The powder adheres to the males and a state of ‘auto-confusion’ results -- their sensors are overwhelmed, they cannot detect females, they act as a false sexual lure for other males, the mating cycle breaks down and the pest population crashes.

Headquartered near Milan, Intrachem Bio Italia specializes in the registration, development, marketing and distribution of advanced technology products for agriculture. The company is a leader in Italy in four main areas – bio fertilizers and high-purity nutrients, micro organisms and botanical pesticides for plant protection, macro organisms (EG beneficial insects and nematodes and products derived from natural sources, such as plant stimulants). Their ‘BIOGARD’ mark is visible on all products suitable for organic agriculture.

“Biotechnology is our top priority,” comments Massimo Toni, Intrachem Bio International’s Managing Director, “and our partnership with Exosect is fundamental to this strategy. Our focus is and will continue to be the introduction of Integrated Pest Management products on which the future of modern agriculture hinges.”
