Courage in China; Next up, Courage in the U.S. Bill Treasurer, best-selling author, consultant, keynote speaker, recently earned best-seller status in China for his publication, “Courage Goes to Work”. The work has received endorsements from major U.S. executives but has had blockbuster appeal in China for its messages that inspire the attitudes that must accompany aggressive business growth. Asheville, North Carolina (Vocus) March 4, 2010 Bill Treasurer, best-selling author, consultant, and keynote speaker, recently earned best-seller status in China for his publication, “Courage Goes to Work”. “China wants to become even more courageous, apparently.” That is the sentiment of Bill Treasurer, author of Courage Goes to Work (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2008). His book, which was released in China in November of 2009, quickly achieved bestseller status, climbed to 6th in the management ranks. “I was thrilled when the book received over 40 endorsements from top executives in the United States,” Treasurer explains, “but when book sales started going through the roof in China, it was particularly gratifying.” Treasurer provides a number of reasons why Chinese business people are interested in the topic of courage. “First,” he says, “the Chinese are a proud and ambitious people. Anyone who watched the 2008 Summer Olympic games can attest to that. China, right now, is keenly aware of its growing stature as a global business superpower. Courage will become increasingly important, individually and collectively, to continue China’s aggressive business growth.” The book may also be resonating with readers because in 2010 China’s lunar calendar moved into the year of the tiger. The tiger’s fierceness is matched by its courage. “In becoming the Year of the Tiger, China has essentially moved into the Year of Being Courageous.” Treasurer explains. “It is easy for me to envision a Chinese business person walking into a bookstore and having his attention be drawn to a business book on courage, especially one that deals directly with how to apply courage at work.” While the Chinese may have extra reasons to be drawn to a book about workplace courage, the topic is relevant to most every business-minded people. Courage, as Treasurer explains, is the first virtue of business. “Think about it. Leadership requires making bold decisions that some people will disagree with, so leadership takes courage. Innovation means creating ground-breaking ideas that often defy tradition, so innovation takes courage. And sales involves knocking on hundreds of doors and being rejected over and over again, so sales takes courage. Without courage, other important business concepts – like leadership, innovation, and sales – don’t even exist.” About Bill Treasurer
