Holidaymakers Get More for Their Travel Money in Jamaica, Egypt and Dubai

Research from the Post Office reveals foreign currency exchange trends for UK holidaymakers' travel money

London, UK (PRWeb UK) March 3, 2010

With the pound rising in value against many foreign currencies over the last year, the Post Office Travel Money's Report has revealed the top destinations where sterling will stretch farthest for UK holidaymakers.

The report names Jamaica, Egypt and Dubai as the destinations where UK travellers may get the most from their travel money in 2010. Thanks to sterling's strengthening foreign currency exchange rate over the past 12 months, UK tourists will now receive over 21 per cent more Jamaican dollars, almost 12 per cent more Egyptian pounds and 12.6 per cent more UAE dirhams compared to January 2009 .

In 2009, Turkey proved to be a big winner for low-cost holidays, but this year, the annual Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer, a foreign currency information survey of holiday costs, warns that visitors to Turkey may face paying much more for tourist items. Despite a favourable foreign currency exchange rate for sterling against Turkish lira, the Holiday Costs Barometer reveals that as a result of rising costs for meals, drinks and other holiday essentials prices for UK tourists visiting Turkey have increased by almost 44 per cent since last year .

Sarah Munro, Post Office Head of Travel Money, said: "Judging by the price rises recorded in our latest foreign currency comparison survey, Turkey is unlikely to be the cheap destination that it was just a couple of years ago when the Post Office Barometer identified the country as a best buy. For 2010, our shopping basket of eight tourist staples indicates that Turkey is now 68 per cent more expensive for UK holidaymakers' travel money than Spain."
