Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) April 7, 2006 -- Professor Ellis D. Norman, Director of Strategic Development at The International School of Hospitality (TISOH) and Assistant Professor & Internship Coordinator at UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, gave a lecture entitled “The Interdependency of World Tourism, Local Markets and Hospitality Education” at the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center on March 28, 2006. The lecture was jointly sponsored by the Busan Metropolitan City Government and the Busan Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Professor Norman’s lecture drew an attendance of over 200. Dignitaries included the Honorable Vice Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City, the President of BEXCO and the Secretary General of the Busan Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Professor Norman’s lecture covered a range of topics organized in a macro to micro manner. On a macro level, he started with a discussion on the World Tourism Organization’s Tourism 2020 vision, followed by an analysis of the recent APEC initiatives. He then discussed tourism promotional initiatives in both the Republic of Korea and the United States. The third segment of the lecture dealt with an analysis of the Las Vegas convention industry and the lessons that can be learnt from its growth. Finally, he concluded with a discussion on how to bridge the gap between hospitality education and industry.

This lecture culminated a 2-week long tour of South Korea by TISOH officials to promote hospitality education in Las Vegas. Other stops included Education Fairs in Seoul and Busan as well as meetings with general managers of hotels, convention bureaus, exhibition centers and municipal authorities in both cities.
