SumoKids Foundation of Buffalo, New York, to Hold Public Events -- Will Showcase Results of Free School & Community Programs

The not-for-profit SumoKids Foundation invites the media and public to experience the benefits their program brings to inner-city children. These events are open to the public and media. SumoKids currently serves Buffalo, New York, schools and community centers. It receives pro bono support from Noein Inc. and eXubrio Group LLC.

In its second year of operation, SumoKids Foundation invites Buffalo area media and the public to view the results of its program. The current schedule of events is:

Community Centers

  •     April 25, Tuesday, 4 - 6 pm at JFK Community Center
  • May 4, Thursday, 4 - 6 pm at Hennepin Community Center
  • May 10, Wednesday, 4 - 6 pm at Langley Community Center

Schools

  • May 6, Saturday, 11 am - 1 pm at St. Mary’s School for the Deaf
  • May 22, Monday, 11 am - 1 pm at Highgate Heights Elementary School

SumoKids provides free after school activities to children in Buffalo area schools and community centers. The SumoKids Foundation conducted a highly successful pilot program at the Highgate Heights Elementary School in Buffalo during the 2004-2005 school year.

The Foundation began new programs in January at the following Buffalo schools; Harriet Ross Tubman School #31, and Highgate Heights School #80. The Foundation also is producing at program at St. Mary’s School for the Deaf. The Foundation has additional programs underway at the J.F.K Community Center, the Langley Community Center, and the Hennepin Community Center, all in Buffalo, New York.

SumoKids after school activities are educational sports festivals. The program weaves the traditional arts of Sumo Wrestling with elements of contemporary youth culture into an exciting youth adventure.

Children and schools can participate free-of-charge. All children between 6 and 14 can participate, including disabled children. In the SumoKids program, children make friends, recognize artistic skills, and learn the value of hard work.

Children who participate in SumoKids Foundation programs also learn to:

  • Control emotions and actions
  • Show honor and respect
  • Show courtesy and dignity
  • Harness impatience
