Poll Gives Katie Couric a “Bodacious” Thumbs Up 9 Percent Of Respondents In A Recent Nationwide Poll Call Couric’s Move “Brainless” While 91% Support The Departure From NBC’s Today Show, Calling The Move Gutsy, Though Many Are Not Sure She Can Pull It Off. Richmond, VA (PRWEB) April 20, 2006 -- The results from a nationwide poll about Katie Couric’s recent announcement are in. Ninety-one percent believe Couric’s move to leave her well-established position on NBC’s Today show to become the first solo female anchor by heading up the CBS Evening News was “bodacious”, while 9% believe it was a “brainless” decision. The poll was conducted by Mary Foley, creator of the national Bodacious Woman Awards (www.bodaciouswomanawards.com), after hearing very mixed commentary on Couric’s announcement just two weeks ago.
“Some said Katie Couric’s decision was just silly and brainless” explains Foley. “How can ‘America’s Sweetheart’ with a big smile and great legs be taken seriously enough to deliver serious news stories night after night? For others, it showed Katie’s bodacious gutsiness. She’s a woman who may be risking it all to take on a historic opportunity. It made me wonder if America is truly ready to embrace women who take risks that we don’t always understand or agree with.”
“The poll results and comments indicate the vast majority of America is ready. Overwhelmingly – 91% – of those who voted believe Couric’s move was gutsy and one that she’s earned. They aren’t as sure she’ll be as successful with such a dramatic TV format and flavor change.”
Former Today show colleague Casey Quinlan commented on www.bodaciousblog.com: “I'm not sure how smooth the transition from morning-show perkiness to nightly-news gravitas will be for her. She has the brains, but I don't know if she has the brass to reinvent herself. I'm rooting for her, but there are lots of long guns scoped in on her waiting for an opportunity to fire.”
“This is exactly what bodacious women do and why Katie is in the running for the 2006 Bodacious Woman Awards,” says Foley. “I created these Awards to recognize women in the national arena who are role-models of positive gutsiness and to encourage other women by their example. We’ll all know soon if Katie flops or if she’s fabulous. The most important thing is that she’s taking the risk and following her own path.”
Mary Foley created the national Bodacious Woman Awards (www.bodaciouswomanawards.com) to recognize women in the news who are exceptional role-models and to encourage other women by their example. Foley is author of “Bodacious! Woman: Outrageously in Charge of Your Life and Lovin’ It!”, winner of an honorable mention as “One of the 10 Best Outstanding Books of the Year in 2005” by the Independent Publishers Association. During her decade long career at America Online where she started as an $8 an hour customer service rep and rose to the head of corporate training, Mary transformed from a good girl to a Bodacious Woman. Mary’s mission is to inspire millions of women to be bodacious in their lives, businesses, and careers through her company Bodacious! Ventures.
