People's Choice Honors Leaders of Youth Local inland empire organization honors people who have made a difference in the lives of youths. San Bernardino, CA (PRWEB) April 20, 2006 -- Local inland empire organization honors people who have made a difference in the lives of youths.
“People’s Choice, Inc. has been a vital part of our community for the past 22 years. It is a non-profit health service and referral community-based organization, providing services to low-income families in the Inland Empire. Its services include maternal and child health, outpatient substance abuse treatment, teen pregnancy prevention and childcare services,” said Anita Jones, founder and executive director People’s Choice, Inc.
“Our mission is to “create healthy empowered families through the integration of support systems,” she added.
Youth are vital to this integration. Since 1997, People’s Choice, Inc. has run a program called “HABLO” -- Helping Adolescents Build Life Options -- to empower teens to rise above their current environment and succeed in the future.
The program gives teens a chance to make positive contributions to the community as well as feel useful and productive. Its alumni have graduated from schools such as USC, UCLA as well as from the California State University system.
On May 25, 2006, People’s Choice is hosting a gala event honoring “Leaders of Youth in the Inland Empire”. The honorees will include those who have made life in the Inland Empire better, as well as the elders who helped to guide them in their efforts. The event will be held at the San Bernardino Hilton, at 6:00pm, and tickets are $100.00.
The honorees include Lt. Diane Holmes (City of San Bernardino Police Department), Eric Walsh, MD (Director of Urgent Care at Loma Linda University), Margaret Hill (Retired Principal of San Bernardino City Unified School District), and Wilbur Brown (Retired Probation Officer of San Bernardino County).
“I heartily invite everyone from Riverside and San Bernardino counties to participate in this event,” said Jones, “because we cannot spend enough time honoring the youth who do positive things in our community and act as role models for their peers.”
