Artist Deedra Ludwig creates opulent new works in encaustic and resin. Her work continues to observe nature and living movements of flux and transformation.

Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) May 1, 2006 -- Recent works by encaustic painter Deedra Ludwig will be on exhibition at TEW Galleries in Atlanta, Georgia May 19 until June 17, 2006.

Ludwig has most recently finished a four month artist in residency program in Oregon at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. The Sitka Center Program provides grants to invited artists, writers and natural science scholars allowing them to work together for a given period of time. Ludwig produced her recent exhibition while also monitoring the Salmon River estuary, which provided an abundance of inspiration. The area is an ecologically important area where land, fresh water and salt water meet. Each day Ludwig observed the forest land and estuary wetlands brimming with life, an area where all elements of nature are in a constant state of becoming, changing and evolving into something else, creating a new sense of structure. The land at Sitka is layered with fossil beds, seed pods, blackened fern fronds, layers of sand, twisted tree branches and a multitude of natural forms and shapes.

Ludwig has worked with encaustic over the past twenty years. The medium provides a rich, textured base of bees wax which she adds soil, organic materials, ground stone and dried plants. This collection of natural materials allows for a sense of place to be preserved within the surface of the paintings. Ludwig has worked in several countries gathering and observing elements of nature from diverse ecosystems.

As an artist she seeks to connect nature with contemporary life, taking the outside and placing it inside creating a sense of eden that we can reflect upon from any environment.
