Indianapolis, Indiana (PRWEB) March 21, 2010 The countdown to the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Final Four® is nearing its end as a semi-truck and trailer carrying the Championship Court made by Connor Sport Court pulls into Lucas Oil Stadium on Thursday, March 25. The public is invited to welcome the truck and its court. The playing court comes to Indianapolis after stops in Milwaukee, Arlington Heights, Illinois, and South Bend, Indiana. The court was constructed in Amasa, Michigan at Connor’s mill. Painting of the surface was completed in Milwaukee by Jason Thomas Flooring, with the NCAA logos shining brightly on the Michigan hardwood maple floor. Connor has been in the court building business since 1872. The court, a QuickLock portable court system, was constructed by Connor Sports Flooring specifically for the NCAA Final Four. It is built from maple in strict accordance with NCAA specifications. Connor Sport Court is a member of the Maple Flooring Manufacturing Association (MFMA) and adheres to the stringent environmental guidelines of that organization. Connor also offers wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which identifies products from responsibly-managed forests. Connor Sports Flooring is a Zero Waste company. Recycling, avoiding waste, innovative technology and a strong environmental consciousness are a major part of Connor’s corporate policy. Hardwood used in the courts is from a renewable resource, with the U.S. growing six times more hardwood than is harvested each year, said Ron Cerny, President and CEO of Connor Sport Court. The specially marked truck and semi-trailer has made the following stops on its way to Indianapolis Monday, March 22—Marquette University, Milwaukee.
In Milwaukee and South Bend, the truck stopped to honor the NCAA history of Marquette University and Notre Dame. In Arlington Heights the semi-truck and trailer with the court stopped to recognize the managers and team of Connor Flooring who office there and who supervised and managed the Final Four project. At Jason Thomas Flooring in Milwaukee, finishers laid out the floor and then carefully sand the surface. Two coats of seal follow. Seal keeps the finish and paint from being absorbed. Then the logos and other decorative elements are painted on the court. Finally, one coat of gloss provides that familiar shine that says “Final Four” basketball. Floors from past championships have often been purchased by winning schools, with some being sold as part of the fund raising effort for that college’s athletics, said Ron Cerny.
