Blogertising - Water Cooler Chitchat Just Went Global Promoting Her New George W Bush Book “DUMBASS”, Author and Entrepreneur Jules Carlysle Puts a Unique New Spin on Internet Marketing. Thunder Bay, ON (PRWEB) April 27, 2006 -- Website Banners, TV spots and sleek magazine layouts may promote brand awareness to consumers, but when it comes to closing the sale, nothing is as influential as good word of mouth from a trusted source. Jules Carlysle, an entrepreneur and author of the new George W Bush book “DUMBASS – Outrageous Quotes from the World’s Most Powerful Moron”, is counting on that as she launches her very own “epidemic”, a clever viral marketing campaign that compensates bloggers for discussing her book on the internet.
With a job posting on Workopolis and a generous referral program, Carlysle has recruited bloggers from all over Canada, the United States and Germany to promote her book online by posting reviews, entering discussion forums, posting on blogs and sending emails.
Working on a points-reward system, bloggers are provided with lists of websites, blog sites and media contacts along with a menu explaining how many points completion of a given task will net their account. After accumulating the requisite number of points by completing verifiable tasks, the blogger is rewarded with cash or product.
In the case of DUMBASS, 500 points earns the bloggers a limited edition T-shirt and autographed copy of her next book. After accumulating 750 points and submitting their sales receipt, bloggers will be reimbursed in cash for their original purchase of DUMBASS.
A new campaign currently under negotiation will pay bloggers a cash stipend.
Carlysle hopes her “blogertising” campaign will not only drive sales of her book but help her attract an agent for her next one. “Even before I started the blogertising for DUMBASS, it hit #2 on MSN’s list of Most Popular books in political humor (beating Jon Stewart’s America the Book by 2 spots, and sat comfortably in the Top Ten Bestselling New Releases list on Barnes & Noble.com for three months.” That’s no small feat for a first book and when you consider that not a single penny was spent promoting it, it’s a downright miracle. Imagine what could be accomplished with the support of a major publishing house.
In another unusual public relations maneuver, Carlysle is not scripting or limiting anyone’s freedom of expression. “If a blogger hates the book and thinks I’m a jerk, they are absolutely free to express that. I don’t want to tell anybody what they should think. Since the concept and campaign are new, I’m operating under the assumption that there is no such thing as bad publicity until a situation crops up that proves me wrong. It’s about starting the conversation. The internet is the water cooler to the world and I want people standing around that water cooler talking about my book. Ultimately it doesn’t matter what they say, just as long as they say it a lot”.
About the Book:
Title: DUMBASS Author/Editor: Jules Carlysle ISBN: 1-4116-6093-5 Published: January 2006 Lulu Press Trade Paperback 652 pages
Description:
Dumbass is the complete compendium of stupid quotes from the grammatically and intellectually challenged 43rd President of the United States. At once laugh out loud funny and infuriating, Dumbass reflects W’s words through the lens of popular culture and history, utilizing clever and insightful quotes from our favorite comedians and historical figures to draw greater insight into the mind of this spectacularly and uniquely inept man. Dumbass will escort you humorously through years of George's verbal carnage and leave readers wondering how and why someone so stupid was able to usurp America and orchestrate the greatest foreign relations disaster in history. Republicans and other Bush supporters should feel free to use the 650-page volume to beat themselves about the head until November 2008
From her unique perspective on politics or popular culture, to her wry wit and passionate criticism of President Bush, you may not agree with everything Jules Carlysle has to say, but it's hard not to enjoy the way she says it. Dumbass is absolutely hysterical, thought provoking and entirely entertaining.
About Jules Carlysle:
Jules Carlysle is an author and entrepreneur from Northwestern Ontario Canada. In January 2004, at the height of her success as President of Learn-IT, a technology training company, Jules suffered a head injury when she slipped on some icy stairs and hit her head on a brick wall.
Over the course of the following year, while unable to work, Carlysle, a single mother was forced to close Learn-IT and move with her teenage son into a single room above a sporting goods store. Carlysle coined a new phrase to describe their unique living conditions, “Functional Homelessness”. Although grateful to have a roof over their heads, their room lacks certain crucial amenities like a bathroom or kitchen.
Still recovering from the head injury, Jules was frustrated that she was considered unemployable while she still clearly had more on the intellectual ball than the President of the United States.
Finding inspiration in that unlikely place, Carlysle embarked on 10 months of intensive research and editorial work, yielding some unexpected results. Not only did she publish a popular political humor book, the work itself had proven therapeutic and she found herself restored and rehabilitated.
Though not quite “her old self”. Carlysle lives her new life with adjusted priorities and apart from her viral marketing project and the occasional consulting gig, she focuses strictly on writing. Her acerbic wit and flair for the dramatic add punch to her colorful essays, which feature titles like “I’ve Got Brain Damage…What’s the President’s Excuse?”, “The Smell of Despair” and “Shlock Value”.
Her next book is aptly titled, “Sh*theads Say the Darndest Things – The Bill O’Reilly Quote Book”. She aspires to someday write and produce for film or television and maybe…just maybe….get a house with a bathroom.
Carlysle is currently working on 4 new books and maintains a blog of humorous and other essays on her website. www.julescarlysle.com
