Tishcon Doubles Donation to Tibetan Children Tishcon Corporation today announced that it has doubled its commitment to supply multivitamin tablets to the Vitamin Angel Alliance and will now manufacture and provide two million tablets each month for distribution to at-risk children in Tibet. Westbury, N.Y. May 10, 2006 –- Tishcon Corporation today announced that it has doubled its commitment to supply multivitamin tablets to the Vitamin Angel Alliance and will now manufacture and provide two million tablets each month for distribution to at-risk children in Tibet.
Vitamin Angel Alliance, a non-profit organization designed to fight malnutrition and childhood blindness around the world organizes monthly donations in Tibet in coordination with the Terma Foundation, a non-profit humanitarian organization focusing on Tibetan health crises.
“We are very impressed with the great work Vitamin Angels is doing in Tibet, and felt it was extremely important for us to increase our commitment to helping the affected children in this region,” said Arun Chopra, vice president, Tishcon Corporation. “We are proud of our association with Vitamin Angels, and are pleased to be not only continuing, but growing our relationship.”
A study conducted by the Terma Foundation found that up to 70 percent of Tibetian children are vulnerable to rickets. Rickets is caused by vitamin D and calcium deficiencies that weaken the immune system, causing children to be vulnerable to severe childhood diseases including pneumonia and tuberculosis.
“We are thrilled that Tishcon has increased its monthly donation. This brings us closer to our goal of distributing five million multivitamins to children in Tibet every month,” said Howard Schiffer, president, Vitamin Angel Alliance. “Since launching this campaign in 2003, a dramatic improvement has been seen in the children being served in Tibet. Tishcon has been with us from the start and is consistently one of the first companies to reach out and offer assistance.”
Last year alone, Vitamin Angel Alliance shipped more than 100 million supplements to over 40 countries throughout the world, including to victims of the tsunami in South Asia and hurricane Katrina in the United States.
