Home Depot’s Damage Fee Catches Consumers Unawares California consumers need to be warned of an undisclosed damage fee that is charged to them on all Home Depot equipment and tool rentals. Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 11, 2006 -- Apparently, Home Depot has a policy of automatically charging a 10% Damage Fee on all its equipment and tool rentals, without telling customers that the fee is optional.
The fee has been listed as a “tax”, and in some cases, even if a customer has asked that the fee be removed, Home Depot has refused to do so.
The fee is intended to act as insurance to protect consumers against charges from accidental equipment damage, but not disclosing the fee, or giving a customer the option to accept or reject the fee, is a violation of consumer rights.
