Still Hot, Fit and Fabulous--Age 40 and Beyond Author Beverly Mahone offers a new view of the "middle passage", in her humorous and insightful book, WHATEVER! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age. Durham, NC (PRWEB) May 17, 2006 -- Author and motivational speaker, Beverly Mahone's laughter is contagious as she exclaims: "I'm still hot...it just comes in flashes now!" Mahone says that this is the new national anthem for middle age women everywhere. Her new book, WHATEVER! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age, gives the reader an humorous, yet reflective look at growing older and all of the trials and triumphs that come with the experience.
With great candor and wit, Mahone discusses her own battles with weight gain, divorce and dating again as a single parent; the complex dynamics of being an "older worker" in a youth obsessed society. "I found myself having my biggest hot flashes while at work. The newsroom can be a very stressful place. I began journaling my experiences---all of them. And eventually realized that I had something to share with others."
Over the course of her journalism career, Mahone lived in various cities across the country--and beyond, to include Guantanamo, Bay Cuba. Even her travels didn't prepare her for the trip that middle age has proven to be. "I never imagined having a boss young enough to be my child, and dealing with the host of issues that come from that kind of situation", explains Mahone, "I believe in keeping it real, and these are real issues that we boomer's deal with daily. I know that my book will resonate among any baby boomer that reads it!"
According to the U.S. Census Bureau's latest statistics, baby boomers, those born between the years 1946 and 1964 are 78.2 million strong. Over 50 per cent of that total are women. It is projected that more than 700 people will turn 60 years old each day in 2006.
Given the statistics, the self-proclaimed diva Mahone, is off to a good start. She has already received several pre-orders of her book WHATEVER! And renowned author and professor, Nikki Giovanni has given her a very positive review of the manuscript. Mahone's growing fan base are e-mailing, calling, and talking with her in grocery stores, with their own personal stories about their middle age experiences.
"Whenever I get a chance to talk to a 40-something year old woman about my book, I'll ask her if the seven dwarfs of menopause have come knocking at her door yet? If you're not sure, please allow me to make the introductions. There's Sweaty, Bloated, Forgetful, Bitchy, Itchy, Sleepy, and All Dried Up. They don't all show up at once, but you can rest assured they will come in, sometimes unannounced, and definitely uninvited, and yet, they will wear out their welcome!" laughs Mahone reciting a passage from WHATEVER! "It's a great ice-breaker among all women of a certain age---'cause we all go through it."
The release date for WHATEVER! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age, is set for early June, 2006, and will be available through Beverly Mahone's website: http://www.talk2bev.com, Amazon, and at the Regulator Bookstore in Durham, NC.
