Myrtle Beach, SC (PRWEB) May 23, 2006 -- Robert M. Clinger III, Republican candidate for the Horry County Council District #2 seat, participated in the candidate forum organized by the League of Women Voters on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the Tilley Swamp Baptist Church. Two of Mr. Clinger’s three challengers also appeared at the forum. The third challenger sent notice that he would not be in attendance due to prior commitments.

Mr. Clinger made the following statement regarding the event:

“Tonight’s candidate forum was an excellent opportunity for me to introduce myself and my qualifications and to express my views regarding the issues facing the Horry County Council for the future. The Tilley Swamp communities are very unique and different from other areas in District #2. I am confident that this forum was informative for the residents of the Tilley Swamp communities with respect to how I will listen to and respond to their needs and concerns when I am elected as their County Council representative. I enjoyed meeting all of the residents who attended this event, and I will look forward to representing the residents of the Tilley Swamp communities on the County Council.”

At the outset of the forum, Mr. Clinger delivered a set of carefully prepared remarks that discussed a wide range of issues such as growth and the challenges its poses, fiscal responsibility, investing in the County’s infrastructure, the Capital Projects Sales Tax Act, and three criteria against which he would assess decisions as a member of the Horry County Council. The complete text of his remarks from the League of Women Voters’ candidate forum is available on Mr. Clinger’s campaign website.

Following opening remarks, each candidate was given the opportunity to respond to ten questions developed by the League of Women Voters as well as questions from the audience. The questions addressed subjects such as growth and zoning changes in the community, infrastructure needs, public-private partnership ventures, ethics, mining regulation, and preservation of natural resources.

Previously, Mr. Clinger has appeared before the Legislative Committee of the Coastal Carolina Association of Realtors and the North Myrtle Beach Republican Club’s candidate forum. The complete text of his prepared remarks at each event is also posted on the campaign website.
