Sanders Clinic Gets Jeff Dement Back to the AMA Supercross After Shoulder Injury; Dr. Mark Sanders Is Physician First and Sponsor Second For His Top Rider

Top MX Rider Jeff Dement gets back to the AMA Supercross after agressive treatment plan at Sanders Clinic for Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Dr. Mark Sanders works with athletes from across the United States.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 24, 2006 -- After finishing with a 10th place win in the Orlando leg of the AMA 2006 Supercross, top ranked Jeff Dement injured his shoulder in a practice run and was forced to sit out of upcoming races – though not for long.

Dr. Mark Sanders of the Sanders Clinic for Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine repaired the shoulder and began Dement on an accelerated rehabilitation program that put him back in the race by Dallas.

A rider himself and avid sportsman, Dr. Sanders met Dement at a local race track in 2005 - and together established that the message of healthful strength training and nutrition is not as broadly conveyed as it should be to amateur motocross riders and other young athletes. A sponsorship agreement between the two was created and today they help young athletes across the United States understand what it takes to stay strong in their sport – reducing injuries through education and facilitating a fast recovery when serious injury or accidents occur.

“As a professional athlete, I can’t afford to miss a race. Dr. Sanders’ philosophy is designed to keep athletes in their sport and get them back as strong – if not stronger – than they were before,” said Dement.

“I shared his philosophy as a friend and fellow rider, but now I see how truly effective and motivating it is put into action. I was back in three weeks and stronger than I even expected. It just underscores what we’re working towards as sponsorship partners,” he added.

Twenty-eight-year-old Dement, who recently appeared on the cover of Holeshot magazine and was featured at the Amp’d Mobile Supercross press day, spent the first part of his career in Europe – racing in the World MX Championships from 1999 – 2004 and securing podium finishes in the MX2 class. Today he races for Team Maestro in the AMA Supercross and Motocross National Championships - ranking among the top 20.

“It’s not enough for an athlete to regain function in an injured limb. They need to be ready to face the same type of situation that sent them to me in the first place. That’s why I make the graft choices I do for ACL reconstructions and that’s why our aggressive reconditioning program for serious knee and shoulder injuries is only for those truly determined to get their life back,” said Dr. Sanders.

Dr. Mark Sanders is the official healthcare provider of the Houston Supercross. He is listed among H Texas Magazine’s Top Docs for both 2004 and 2005, and he is featured among the Top Texas Healthcare Professionals in the 2006 Edition of Medicine Men of Texas – Legends, Innovators and Healers.
