The Chapterizer enables publishers to quickly and affordably split eBooks and other documents of any length into stand-alone, fully packaged content chunks, including eChapters, eSections and eArticles. For example, with just a click the Chapterizer can instantly turn a 15-chapter eBook into 15 or more fully packaged and saleable eChapters . Each eChapter can include a cover, customized front and back matter, and a customized marketing page.

“Just as customers can get a slice of an album from iTunes, our customers want the option of buying just a slice of a book,” says Jill Tomich, eBookPie’s CEO. “In our discussions with publishers about developing eChapter content, we’ve found that most are very interested but are usually held back by a lack of resources required for splitting and customizing their eBook content. The Chapterizer solves this problem, making it easy for publishers to quickly and easily create custom content slices from their existing catalog.”

Why “by-the-slice”?
“Many non-fiction books are made up of chapters that are individually valuable as stand-alone content, and our customers tell us they want the option to download just the eChapters they need,” says Tomich. “Let’s take Travel guide books as just one example. Someone flying to Mexico and only visiting Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas doesn’t really need a big, comprehensive Guide to Mexico. They might only want one or two eChapters covering the area they are visiting. Our mission at eBookPie is to give customers the option of deciding how much content they want from a book at any given time.”

Many technology, how-to and other reference books are also great candidates for splitting into stand-alone eChapters. Wrox, a leading technology publisher, has been an early adopter of the eChapter approach. They recently utilized the eBookPie Chapterizer to split several of their professional programming titles, including "Beginning iPhone SDK Programming with Objective C" by Wei-Meng Lee. This eBook contains several eChapters that individually cover specific programming tasks. Readers who need a refresher on just one of those tasks now have the option to download only the eChapter they need.

Chapterizer enables Publishers to Slice Backlists for Value
Many publishers have huge backlists filled with books that might be considered relatively out of date as a whole, but which contain valuable content slices that remain quite relevant and saleable. The Chapterizer makes extracting and re-packaging that content into smaller, dedicated slices of content a quick and easy process. Publishers can thus extend the Long Tail of their catalog and re-introduce backlist titles by making smaller, more affordable chunks of content available. eChapters can also be offered as free sample excerpts to introduce readers to a book.

The Chapterizer™ currently splits DRM free PDFs, and the next version will be able to split ePub formatted eBooks as well.
