(PRWEB) May 25, 2006 -- The Luke Neuhedel Foundation invites you to sponsor a child with cancer to its annual fundraiser, LukeFest. LukeFest is open to the general public to help raise needed funds to help children with cancer with the expenses associated with their life-threatening disease. The Luke Neuhedel Foundation also invites children with cancer from the NY-Metro area and their family to enjoy the fun of LukeFest free of charge. The children and their families enjoy a magic show, DJ, visits from Elmo and Tigger, rides, caricatures, balloon magic, clowns, face painting, a BBQ lunch from Applebee’s, a great goody bag, and more.
Sponsorship is $100 per child. Sponsorship provides the child with an afternoon of fun, away from hospitals, chemo, and radiation. Sponsorship allows a child and their family to be “normal” for a day, and creates a lasting memory. To be a sponsor send your donation to LNF at: Luke Neuhedel Foundation, Sponsor a Child Program, PO Box 137, Massapequa Park NY 11762. Include your address so LNF can send you a thank you gift and a free adult admission to LukeFest 2006.
LukeFest began as a celebration of life for little Luke Neuhedel. Luke was diagnosed with stage IV hepatoblastoma, a rare children’s liver cancer, at age 9 months in August 1999. Doctors predicted Luke could not survive the first round of intense chemotherapy. Luke exceeded everyone’s expectations and survived continuous doses of strong chemo, surgeries, and experimental treatments. To commemorate Luke’s miraculous anniversary of living a year with cancer his family held LukeFest, a celebration of the meaningful life of their brave boy, in August 2000. Luke lived another year to celebrate LukeFest 2001. Luke died in March 2002, and Luke’s family founded the Luke Neuhedel Foundation in his memory. LNF raises money to provide direct grants to children in the US who are fighting a pediatric cancer. Since Luke’s family and volunteers do all the work, all funds raised go to the kids who need it. LukeFest became a celebration of the miracle of all children who have fought and continue to fight the #1 disease killer of children in the world.
LukeFest is held every summer in Seaford, NY. LukeFest includes local talent coming together to “party for a cure”, such as Magician John Lepre, Caricaturist Deborah Gary, Nick the Balloonatic, Applebee’s. In the past team mascots have appeared to meet the children, including Quackerjack from the LI Ducks, Sandy from the Brooklyn Cyclones, and Mr. Met from the NY Mets. The NY Islanders, NY Rangers, and NY Dragons have also brought their party patrols to celebrate with the children. LukeFest includes great food, rides, games, raffles, and entertainment for an afternoon of family fun. This year’s seventh LukeFest is scheduled for July 29th from 12nooon to 4pm at Maria Regina School in Seaford. Money is raised through raffles and donation admissions. LukeFest is open to the public.
The Luke Neuhedel Foundation is a 501c3 charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with cancer through education, research, and mostly aid to families.
