Utility to Host Hurricane Preparedness Meetings

Kissimmee Utility Authority will host a series of neighborhood meetings designed to inform the public about disaster preparedness and emergency response. Using lessons learned from the brutal 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, the 60-minute sessions will be packed with helpful tips and information, including details on evacuation procedures, power restoration, generator safety, tree trimming and debris collection, public safety and more.

Kissimmee, FL (PRWEB) May 24, 2006 –- Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) has launched a community-wide initiative to help residents prepare for this year’s hurricane season.

The utility will host a series of neighborhood meetings designed to inform the public about disaster preparedness and emergency response. Using lessons learned from the brutal 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, the 60-minute sessions will be packed with helpful tips and information, including details on evacuation procedures, power restoration, generator safety, tree trimming and debris collection, public safety and more.

The meetings will feature representatives from KUA, Osceola County, City of Kissimmee and the University of Florida's IFAS Osceola County Extension.

Those residents who attend will receive a printed copy of the utility's 2006 Osceola Hurricane Handbook. The 40-page guide includes practical tips to prepare for hurricanes and floods, plus helpful Osceola County telephone numbers, a disaster supplies checklist and a hurricane tracking chart.

All meetings will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served and those who attend can register for a door prize.
