Internationally Renown Infidelity Expert on Ireland’s Late Late Show

Infidelity expert Ruth Houston speaks out about signs of infidelity, why men cheat, and what wives should do if they suspect their husbands of cheating, on Ireland’s Late, Late Show.

After quoting the shocking infidelity statistics Ms. Houston provided (50% - 70% of men cheat on their wives), and commenting on the rising rate of infidelity in Ireland, talk show host Pat Kenny read excerpts from Ms. Houston’s book, Is He Cheating on You? – 829 Telltale Signs, which documents practically every known sign of infidelity. He then grilled Ms. Houston, an internationally recognized infidelity expert who was once an infidelity victim herself, about several aspects of infidelity, including why men cheat.

What are the signs of infidelity?

“There are 21 major categories of telltale signs of infidelity – most of which are subtle. Categories include physical appearance, conversational clues, day-to-day behavior, work habits, how he relates to you, telephone tip offs, and more. If a man is really cheating, there will be more than just one or two telltale signs. You’ll find clusters of signs from several of the 21 categories all at once. Where there’s one sign, there will always be other corroborating signs. Knowing what to look for is the key.”

Why do men cheat?

“Men usually cheat for sexual reasons. They want more sex, a different type of sex, sex with a different person, opportunistic sex. But there are other reasons as well - ego embellishment, a sense of entitlement, cultural reasons, and more. A woman should never blame herself when her husband cheats, because it’s NOT her fault, though he may try to make her feel that it is. Cheating is a personal choice he made and usually has very little to do with anything his wife did or didn’t do.”

What should a women do if she suspects her husband of cheating?

“Speak up. Let him know you know about his affair. The worst thing you can do is sit back and say or do nothing. Know the signs. Document them by jotting them down in a journal, and use this information to confront your husband about his cheating. There are questions you need to ask him so you can determine the best way to handle the situation. Before you can make an intelligent decision about whether to leave him or to remain in the marriage and try to work things out, you need to know the extent of his involvement with the Other Woman, what he intends to do now that you know, why he initiated the affair in the first place, his attitude about the affair and more. What is the likelihood that it will happen again?”

Ms Houston advised women to have an Infidelity Game Plan in place, since given the current statistics, the likelihood is very high that most women will become victims of infidelity at some point in their lives. “Become familiar with the warning signs of infidelity -- not just the obvious signs, but the subtle signs as well. The sooner you spot the signs, the better your chances are of saving the relationship -- or of protecting yourself legally and financially if the infidelity should lead to divorce."
