Another Short Story Collection by Hama Tuma

In this collection, Hama Tuma writes of the City folk of his home country. The stories are tragic, poignant, funny and captivatingly real. There are the garbage baby, the witchdoctors, the corrupt officials, the cynical detective, the spoilt elite, the Mob in all its fury and more.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 30, 2006 -- Hama Tuma's "The Case of the Criminal Walk and Other Stories" follows in the tradition of his first short story collection, The Case of the Socialist Witchdoctor and Other Stories, marrying satire and irony to the tales of the tragic reality of a people. A people in a City that may resemble any other in the developing world but has, as the stories show, retained its own particular character. There is poverty, grinding poverty at that but there is also hope. The government in place is corrupt and repressive but the people are wily, they are survivors trained by decades of misrule. Captain Berhanu, the main character in the longest story, is an example of the cynicism and hope, and the resilience, which characterize the City folk of Hama Tuma. The writer knows his people, warts and all, and the sympathy and solidarity he feels towards them is in the stories without, however, affecting the honest tale telling that has lent the stories vibrancy. The Anderibi Story, The Garbage Baby, The Mob, The Other Son are, for example, unique stories that illustrate life in Hama Tuma's unnamed City.

These are indeed stories that clearly show that Hama Tuma is indeed a gifted writer who has captured the contradictions, the woes and joys, the illusions and hopes of his people.
