Two Tons of Steel Releases DVD/CD

Celebration Continues with Broken Spoke Show on July 7

Austin, TX (PRWEB) June 4, 2006 -- Dynamic country-billy combo Two Tons of Steel celebrates the release of its long-awaited CD-plus-DVD, Two Ton Tuesday Live! (Palo Duro Records; street date: June 6) in Austin with a show for Cap City-area fans at 9 p.m. Friday, July 7, at the landmark Broken Spoke, 3201 S. Lamar Blvd., in Austin. Cover is $10; information: 512.442.6189.

The heavily anticipated CD-plus-DVD captures the band’s 11-years-running summer concert series in the oldest dance hall in Texas, which got kicked off at Gruene Hall on May 30. The show draws 12,000 fans annually, making the band record holder of every attendance record the 125-year-old venue has.

The DVD (director was cinematographer-editor-producer-writer William H. Molina) has already earned an award for its remarkable depiction of a band described as the face of Texas music: a Gold Remi at the 39th WorldFest Independent Film Festival in Houston in April. The band – which was featured in May 26 LIFE magazine newspaper insert that reached 27 million households – will briefly detour its current Texas tour to perform June 15 at RiverBend 2006 in Chattanooga, Tenn., where nightly attendance is expected to be 80,000.

“Two Tons of Steel continues this confident fusion of hayseed and half-ass,” says The Dallas Observer. “One listen to its hillbilly take on ‘I Wanna Be Sedated’ on its fine, recent effort, VEGAS, makes obvious that it really isn't all that far from two-stepping to stage-diving.”

Two Tons front man Kevin Geil, Dennis Fallon (electric guitar, harmonica), Ric Ramirez (upright bass, harmony vocals), Chris Dodds (drums, harmony vocals) and Texas Steel Guitar Hall of Famer Denny Mathis (also on Dobro) have created a new Texas music that combines traditional rockabilly and a heady rock ’n’ roll beat for a new retro sound of their own.
